We begin with a person and a dream… and help him or her to do what God has called him to do. Africa is one of the great success stories in modern missions. By and large, the church is numerous and strong, with African leaders who have their fingers on the pulse of people’s needs. That’s why we believe in starting with an African’s vision, not our own. Besides, Africans who are pursuing their dreams are more likely to demonstrate the degree of hard work and self-sacrifice necessary to bring them to completion. A “breakthrough project” takes a ministry to a whole new level… through a wider scope, greater effectiveness, increased internal efficiency, or enhanced sustainability. We’re not interested in supplying operating funds or salaries that might create an organization that is out of step with the local culture and realities. On the other hand, we’re very interested in providing one-time resources to Africans who don’t have access to “churches back home” for extraordinary needs. Here are some examples of what we mean: |

Mike Henderson with Lucia and Tatenda Gunguwo, who direct an AIDS orphan ministry and a denomination in Zimbabwe. |
For more information about Heart of Africa ministry philosophy, read our Strategy Paper. Our second ministry is to you! Executive Director, Mike Henderson, is fond of saying, “We water the trees here, and they bear fruit in Africa.” Many people are aware of the great challenges that Africa faces today, but don’t have the connections to choose a ministry where their funds will be invested for maximum impact. This is the missing link that we are able to supply. We take a personal interest in our donors’ desires: Do you prefer a particular area of ministry—youth, AIDS, theological education, etc.? Do you have a specific country focus? Is your ability to give $100 or $100,000? (It’s all pleasing to God, and we’re thankful for every gift.) Many times we can match you with a project which you will take pleasure in following for years to come. |
