The Africa Gospel Church (AGC) is a strong and stable network of more than 1,700 churches in Kenya. Established by Rev. Johanna Ng’tich in 1928 and working closely with World Gospel Mission, the AGC has a long history of serving the practical needs of the communities where its churches are located. One of those services is their ministry to Kenyans who are in jail or prison.
Pastor Michael Teituk is director of the AGC Correctional Ministries. Eight trained chaplains–five men and three women– conduct worship services, teach literacy classes, provide counseling, and lead Bible studies in five prisons in western Kenya. Their missionary counterpart is Mrs. AleneBurgert, who is an instructor in the Tenwek Chaplain’s School and whose husband Stephen is a gastroenterologist at Tenwek Hospital. Her title is “Chief Encourager.”
When prisoners are released, the AGC Correctional Ministries staff help with re-entry to their home communities.
